Overview

The Alligator Head Marine Lab, the research arm of the AHF, was originally set up as a collaboration between the University of the West Indies and TBA-21 Thyssen Bornemisza Art Contemporary. Through the AHML, the EPFS is managed using a science-driven approach which works to speed up
the rehabilitation and recovery of the sanctuary through projects such as coral restoration and mangrove restoration. The AHML also protects endangered species through our sea turtle work and assesses the overall health and improvement of the EPFS through water quality monitoring, coral reef monitoring, lionfish control and reef herbivore research. The AHML partners with international institutions to apply innovative research techniques to help advance the body of science on an international scale and support the delivery of an adaptive management approach to the EPFS and protected areas in Jamaica and the Wider Caribbean.
