Marine Lab

The Alligator Head Marine Lab, established in March 2014, is a collaboration between the University of the West Indies and TBA-21 Thyssen Bornemisza Art Contemporary. It has been set up with a 5 year commitment, and tasked with the collection of high quality data encompassing climate change, marine ecology, taxonomy, and biodiversity as well as fisheries science.

Its focus is on habitats of local species and the more vulnerable ones, biogeographic representation, spawning aggregations, the size of the proposed sanctuary and its on-going protection, connectivity, ecosystem and services, and balancing fishermen’s rights and realistic needs, as well as alternative incomes.

AHML aims to galvanize public support, inform debate and raise funds and awareness to support its programs, reinforcing the conservation needs of the local area.
